The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences has nominated Krisp for the 26th Annual Webby Awards in the “Best Use of AI & Machine Learning” category.

New this year, the category honors excellence in the design and functionality of apps that demonstrate the most innovative use of AI and/or machine learning.

While Krisp is a simple solution that works on every single device, there is a great deal of innovative and complex technology–as well as a large team of engineering gurus–behind the solution.

Krisp creates an additional AI-based layer between the physical microphone/speaker and the communication solution you are using. To remove the noise coming from other participants to you, the audio is received from the communication solution, processed on your device to remove noise by the Krisp Speaker, and then transmitted to your physical speakers.

To remove the noise traveling from you to other participants, the audio is received from your physical microphone, processed on your device to remove noise by the Krisp Microphone, and then transmitted to the communication solution.

Krisp uses a specially designed Deep Neural Network (DNN) to separate human voice from background noise in real-time. The DNN is collectively trained on more than 10,000 hours of human voice and background noises, and achieves an unprecedented level of quality.

For Voice Cancellation, Krisp analyzes your voice to start removing significantly different voices of other people from your audio stream. While it is quite challenging to construct an outbound model used to clean the noise, as well as the human voices that differ from the main speaker’s voice, Krisp has solved this problem.

Our current solution is based on the principle of dividing all human voices into categories. This division entails the use of an unsupervised clustering algorithm, which splits the set of human voices based on 256-dimensional feature vectors.

Using AI Technology

Since the company’s development in 2017, the talented team at Krisp has been working diligently to develop technologies that solve important problems and help people in their daily lives.

While we are optimistic about the incredible potential for AI and other advanced technologies to empower people and promote innovation, we also recognize that these same technologies can raise challenges that must be addressed clearly and thoughtfully.

As a result, we have developed several important principles that outline our commitment to develop AI technology responsibly. These include:

  • Acting in a socially beneficial manner
  • Avoiding the creation and reinforcement of unfair biases
  • Consistently building and testing for safety
  • Being accountable to people
  • Incorporating privacy design principles
  • Upholding high standards of scientific excellence
